Overview
SOS za gluve is the official app of the Belgrade City Organization of the Deaf, developed in cooperation with Serbia's Office for IT and eGovernment. A deaf or hard-of-hearing user starts a video call with a Serbian Sign Language interpreter, who talks in parallel by phone with the person or institution the user needs to reach.
My role
Android Engineer at Abstract. I built the app natively with classic Android XML views and the standard Android library stack.
Architecture & implementation
- Native Android UI with XML views.
- Networking with Retrofit and dependency injection with Dagger Hilt.
- Live video calling with the interpreter over WebRTC.
- Camera capture and video recording with CameraX.
Key features
- Live video calls with a sign language interpreter
- Scheduling appointments for interpreter services
- Favourite contacts for frequent calls
- History of communication with the interpreter
- Registration with a mobile phone number and persistent sign-in on the device
